Lure Coursing in Hull, GA - 05/22/2022
Even though I’d just gotten back from my trip on Saturday afternoon (10 hour flight, 6 hours time difference, barely functioning and running on one brain cell) - I had the itch to take SunMi to a lure coursing event that I knew was going on in North Georgia. I’d just picked her up from her boarding kennel the evening before as soon as I got home from the airport - and while she seemed totally fine - I really wanted to celebrate our reunion with something I knew she loved. Hull is about a 55 minute trip from where we live. I had checked online the night before to make sure that the volunteers who were hosting the event were still accepting Day-Of entries, and much to my delight (and surprise!) they were, BUT I had to check in before 1 PM. Somehow even though I managed to sleep through 3 different alarms (I was catching up on sleep because my brain was still 6 hours behind…) I ended up jerking awake at 11:54am. I can’t even explain how I managed to throw on clothes, brush my teeth, let SunMi out to receive herself in the backyard, grab her leashes, her water, her cooling vest and somehow herd her into the car and manage to drive an hour up into the country and still manage to get there on time. Needless to say… somehow I got to the farm where they were holding the trials at exactly 12:59 pm and was able to sign her up for a couple runs by the skin of my teeth.
Ah yes… the things we do for our dogs.
ANYWAY. I signed her up for 2 CAT runs, threw some water on her cooling vest and went to wait in line. For anyone who is new around here, CAT stands for Coursing Ability Test. Click here to see what one looks like!
$55 later, SunMi was out on the field and running like the wind after the lure, and I was screaming my head off cheering her on. She did GREAT. The judge was nice enough to even write her running times down for us! Her first run she ran the whole course (600 yards) in 48.48 seconds. The second time around she ran it in 48.43 seconds! That evens out to an average of about 25 mph!
Long story short, we had a great time. We even met a judge who mentioned in passing that at one point she had really wanted a Jindo. Maybe I’ll see her at another event and we can chat a little bit more about making that happen someday!
